Best Dental Staffing Apps for Temp and Permanent Hires

Founder, DentistryHires
Updated October 2026

For temp coverage, GoTu and TempStars charge per completed shift (GoTu by role: 22.5% of the rate on hygienist shifts, $60–$300 flat otherwise; TempStars $73 flat), Teero staffs W-2 hygienists at a 12% fee plus payroll costs with $0 permanent hires, and Cloud Dentistry or Princess Dental Staffing suit offices wanting a monthly subscription. For permanent openings, DentistryHires, a dental-only job board rather than a staffing agency, lists a job for $199 at launch pricing.

What is a dental staffing app?

Dental staffing apps replace the traditional agency phone call: you post the shift you need covered, and an app matches it to a professional who is looking for work that day.

They fall into three pricing models, and the model decides what the app ends up costing you.

  • Per-shift marketplaces (GoTu, TempStars): no subscription — the office pays a fee only when a shift is actually worked.
  • W-2 staffing services (Teero): the company employs the hygienists itself and staffs your shifts with its own W-2 workers.
  • Subscription platforms (Cloud Dentistry, Princess Dental Staffing): a flat monthly plan covers unlimited temp requests and, on some plans, permanent job posts.

A job board is the fourth option, and a different thing: it lists permanent openings rather than staffing shifts.

DentistryHires sits in that category, which is why it appears in this comparison only for the permanent-hire half.

Which dental staffing apps work best for temp shifts?

GoTu (the old TempMee web address, tempmee.com, now redirects to gotu.com) is a per-shift marketplace covering hygienists, assistants, front desk staff and associate dentists.

Offices pay per completed shift and never a subscription: 22.5% of the professional's shift rate on hygienist shifts, or a flat $60 per assistant shift, $70 per front desk shift and $300 per associate dentist shift.

Booking an employee (W-2) shift instead of an independent one adds 20% of the professional's pay for administration and employer payroll taxes.

Professionals use the app free, and GoTu says it connects 200,000+ dental professionals with 45,000+ offices across all 50 states (self-reported).

TempStars keeps the bill simple: a flat $73 per completed temp shift with no markup on the temp's hourly rate, nothing charged until the shift is worked, and no subscriptions, contracts, retainers or cancellation penalties.

It covers hygienists, assistants, admin/front desk, office managers and associate dentists, and professionals apply to its Job Board postings free.

Which costs less depends on the role: GoTu charges $60 for an assistant shift against TempStars' flat $73, while hygienist shifts are priced as 22.5% of the professional's rate rather than a flat fee.

Pick GoTu when you want per-role pricing and W-2 shifts as an option; pick TempStars when you want one predictable number per shift.

When is a W-2 hygienist staffing service the better fit?

Teero works differently from the marketplaces: it staffs dental hygienists only, and every hygienist is a W-2 employee of Teero, with payroll, taxes, workers' compensation and liability handled by the company.

You request a shift or a permanent hire, and the office is billed after the shift is worked.

A temp shift costs the hygienist's hourly rate plus a 12% Teero service fee, with employer payroll costs passed through at roughly 8–12% of pay depending on the state — typically 20–24% above the hourly rate all-in.

If Teero cannot fill the shift, you pay nothing.

The permanent-hire price is the standout: $0 to hire a Teero hygienist outright, with no subscription, shift-posting fee or minimum for staffing.

Cancelling a booked shift is free 24 or more hours ahead; inside 24 hours, the full scheduled shift is paid to the hygienist.

Teero says it has placed W-2 hygienists in 2,710 cities across all 50 states (self-reported), and it also sells insurance posting and aging (2% of insurance collections, $800 monthly minimum) and insurance verification at $5 per comprehensive benefits breakdown, separately from staffing.

Teero is the fit when you want a hygienist employed and scheduled for you.

Hygienists are all it staffs, so assistant and front desk coverage stays with a marketplace or a subscription platform.

What do subscription dental staffing platforms cost?

Cloud Dentistry lets you look before you pay: accounts are free for offices and professionals, and you can view professionals' availability, recent reviews, certifications and profiles before subscribing.

Booking requires a subscription plan with unlimited job postings; its offices page shows a $97-per-month Tier 1 plan on a 12-month term ($1,164 a year) plus $20 per completed booking, and notes that the price shown does not reflect the price in all locations.

It covers temp, part-time and permanent hiring across hygienists, assistants, front office staff and dentists, charges no buyout fee if you hire your temp full-time, and requires background checks for all professionals.

It says it is trusted by 500+ DSOs and that 6 out of 10 of its offices made a permanent hire after using a temp first (both self-reported).

Princess Dental Staffing is the flat-rate option: Temps Only at $139 a month for unlimited temp requests, or All Access at $259 for unlimited temp requests, job posts and resume downloads, with no additional fees and no hiring fee when you hire a candidate.

New accounts get a 14-day free trial that renews into the chosen plan, and plans can be changed or cancelled at any time without penalty.

Each additional office costs extra and can be added or removed at any time, and Princess says jobs are automatically distributed to hundreds of sites (self-reported).

The subscription shape pays off when temp coverage is constant.

If you only need a shift covered now and then, a per-shift marketplace keeps you from paying for idle months.

Where does a job board fit for permanent dental hires?

Every app above touches permanent hiring to a degree: Teero charges $0 to hire one of its hygienists permanently, TempStars posts permanent jobs free and charges $18 per candidate interview with no placement fee, Cloud Dentistry adds permanent hiring to the same subscription with no buyout fees, and Princess includes permanent job posts on the $259 All Access plan with no hiring fee.

DentistryHires is the option built only for that half — a job board, not a staffing agency.

It does not fill shifts or employ staff; it lists permanent openings across 15 dental roles.

A Standard listing costs $199 and a Featured listing $399 at launch pricing, each a one-time payment for a 30-day listing, with candidates applying on the practice's own application; DSOs and multi-office groups can subscribe at $899 a month for 10 always-live jobs or $1,749 for 25 Featured ones. Post a job or check what a listing costs.

The honest split: a staffing app for today's schedule, a job board for a permanent vacancy you plan to interview for yourself.

How were these dental staffing apps compared?

Ranked for a dental practice or DSO, not for a recruiter.

Published prices came first: every price and fee on this page is quoted from the company's own website, and where a price is not published we say so rather than estimate it.

The ranking then follows the pricing model, because the model decides what an app costs in practice — per-shift marketplaces first, then W-2 staffing, then subscriptions.

Numbers a company reports about itself — network size, DSO counts, hire rates — are labelled self-reported and do not move the ranking.

TempMee's old name is noted only because its domain still redirects to GoTu.

DentistryHires is one of the options and wrote this page.

Its facts come from the fact sheet, and it is ranked last deliberately: it is a job board, not a staffing agency, so it only competes for the permanent-hire half of this list.

Which one should you choose?

Choose GoTu if…

  • You need short-notice coverage across hygienists, assistants, front desk and associate dentists, and want to pay only when a shift is completed.

  • You occasionally want the professional employed on a W-2 basis and accept the additional 20% of pay that shift type carries.
  • You run a DSO and want consolidated billing and multi-office reporting through GoTu Enterprise.

Choose TempStars if…

  • You want one flat fee per shift ($73) with no subscription, and nothing charged until a shift is completed.

  • You want the listing live as soon as checkout finishes, with candidates applying on your own application.
  • You are a DSO or multi-office group that wants 10 or 25 always-live jobs on a monthly plan you can cancel.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best app to find a temp dental hygienist?

GoTu and Teero are the starting points, because they solve different problems.

GoTu is a per-shift marketplace: you pay 22.5% of the hygienist's rate only when a shift is worked.

Teero staffs the shift for you with its own W-2 hygienists: the hygienist's hourly rate plus a 12% service fee and payroll passthrough, and you pay nothing if Teero cannot fill the shift.

TempStars (a flat $73 per shift) and Cloud Dentistry (a subscription) are the alternatives.

How much do dental staffing apps cost a practice?

Per completed shift: GoTu charges 22.5% of the hygienist's rate or flat $60–$300 fees by role, and TempStars charges a flat $73.

Per shift plus employment: Teero adds a 12% service fee and roughly 8–12% employer payroll costs to the hygienist's hourly rate.

Monthly subscription: Princess Dental Staffing is $139–$259 a month, and Cloud Dentistry shows a $97-a-month starting plan plus $20 per completed booking.

On permanent hires, TempStars charges $18 per interview and Teero charges $0.

Is GoTu free for dental offices?

No. GoTu is free for dental professionals, but offices pay per completed shift: 22.5% of the professional's shift rate on hygienist shifts, a flat $60 per assistant shift, $70 per front desk shift and $300 per associate dentist shift.

Employee (W-2) shifts add 20% of professional pay for administration and employer payroll taxes.

There is no subscription; GoTu Enterprise for large groups and DSOs is priced by contacting sales.

What happened to TempMee?

The TempMee web address now leads to GoTu: tempmee.com returns a 301 redirect to gotu.com, so searches for the old name land on the GoTu marketplace.

GoTu's published office fees today are 22.5% of the professional's shift rate on hygienist shifts and flat $60, $70 and $300 fees for assistant, front desk and associate dentist shifts, with no subscription.

Do dental staffing apps charge a fee when you hire someone permanently?

Most do not, or keep it small.

Teero charges $0 for a permanent hire of one of its hygienists.

TempStars charges nothing to post the job and $18 per candidate you interview, with no placement fee.

Cloud Dentistry says it charges no buyout fee when you hire your temp full-time, and Princess Dental Staffing charges no hiring fee.

GoTu's published prices cover completed shifts, so a permanent-hire price is not published on its site.

Which dental staffing apps work for DSOs and multi-office groups?

GoTu Enterprise handles large groups with custom billing, dedicated account management, multi-office coordination and reporting, priced by contacting sales.

TempStars builds a custom staffing plan for DSOs or groups of five or more offices.

Cloud Dentistry says it is trusted by 500+ DSOs (self-reported).

Princess Dental Staffing charges extra per additional office, added or removed at any time.

DentistryHires runs monthly group plans for DSOs: $899 for 10 always-live jobs or $1,749 for 25, cancel anytime.

Is a staffing app or a job board better for hiring a permanent hygienist?

If the vacancy is permanent, a job board is the simpler tool: DentistryHires lists a hygienist opening for a one-time $199 (Standard, 30 days, launch pricing) and sends candidates to your own application.

A staffing app earns its keep on temp coverage first — though Teero is a real exception, because hiring one of its W-2 hygienists permanently costs $0.

TempStars is a middle path: post free, pay $18 per interview.

Are dental staffing apps free for hygienists and assistants?

On the marketplaces and platforms, yes.

GoTu is free for hygienists, assistants, front desk staff and associate dentists; TempStars is free to sign up and apply to Job Board postings; Princess Dental Staffing candidate accounts are free; and Cloud Dentistry accounts are free for professionals.

Teero is different by design: its hygienists are W-2 employees of Teero, so they are paid by Teero rather than charged a fee.
