Orthodontic Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA)JOB OVERVIEW

Sage Family Orthodontics is seeking a skilled, dependable, and energetic EFDA to join our team. We are a modern, family-owned orthodontic practice built around one doctor, exceptional patient care, and a small team that takes pride in its work.

In this role, you will provide chairside assistance, support orthodontic procedures, manage patient care, and help maintain smooth and efficient clinical operations. Your EFDA training, attention to detail, and ability to connect with patients will directly contribute to outstanding treatment results and positive patient experiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist chairside with orthodontic procedures using efficient four-handed dentistry techniques
• Place brackets and assist with archwire changes, adjustments, and appliance modifications under doctor supervision
• Remove orthodontic adhesive, complete debonds, and place fixed retainers
• Perform EFDA duties within your certification and permitted scope
• Take orthodontic records, including photographs, digital X-rays, and 3D digital scans
• Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments and equipment according to current infection-control standards
• Educate patients and parents about oral hygiene, elastics, retainers, and appliance care
• Accurately document treatment and maintain patient records within our practice-management system
• Pour models and fabricate retainers
• Support digital workflows, indirect bonding, and fully customized bracket systems
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient clinical environment
• Collaborate with the doctor and clinical team to provide a smooth and positive patient experience

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current Ohio EFDA certification
• Current radiography certification
• Previous orthodontic experience strongly preferred
• Experience taking dental X-rays and digital scans accurately while maintaining patient comfort
• Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, clinical procedures, sterilization, and infection-control protocols
• Comfort using electronic patient records and digital dental technology
• Excellent communication and patient-care skills
• Ability to connect professionally with children, teenagers, and adults
• Detail-oriented, reliable, and accountable
• Positive attitude and a genuine team-first mentality
• Willingness to learn new technology, techniques, and clinical systems

COMPENSATION

Starting pay for an EFDA without previous orthodontic experience is $23 per hour during orthodontic training.

Experienced orthodontic EFDA assistants start at $26+ per hour, based on the depth of their orthodontic experience and demonstrated clinical proficiency.

SCHEDULE

Four days per week, with a rotating schedule that may include Monday through Thursday and occasional Friday half-days. This position works at both our Hilliard and Pickerington offices.
