Responsibilities

• Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing, while utilizing dental equipment such as ultrasonic scalers and air polishers.
• Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical history, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans.
• Take and interpret dental x-rays using digital imaging technology, ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols.
• Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to foster long-term dental health.
• Assist the dentist during procedures through chairside assisting with instruments, suctioning, and maintaining a sterile environment following infection prevention protocols.
• Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix for accurate documentation of treatments, medical records, and billing information.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality and managing medical records securely.
• Monitor and operate dental equipment efficiently while adhering to infection control standards such as aseptic technique and healthcare infection prevention measures.

Qualifications

• Valid licensure as a Dental Hygienist in accordance with state regulations.
• Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry settings with a focus on pediatric patients preferred.
• Proficiency in dental software systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and medical coding practices.
• Skilled in taking dental x-rays (dental imaging) and performing patient assessments with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively educate patients about dental care and address their concerns confidently.
• Commitment to maintaining infection control standards through proper aseptic techniques and adherence to healthcare regulations like HIPAA.
