Dental Front Desk Job Description Template

Copy it, edit the bracketed parts. There's no licence to gate this hire — phone manner and software fluency do the work instead.

Most front-desk job descriptions fail on the same two things: they bury the schedule and pay basis, and they say nothing about whether dental experience is actually required. Both are fixable in a few minutes, and both change who applies — including whether a strong no-experience candidate even considers the listing.

What to include

Schedule and pay basis, in the first few lines. Days per week, hours, and the hourly rate.

A listing that hides these reads as a listing with something to hide, and candidates filter on them before reading anything else.

A pay range. Ranges are increasingly required by law in a growing number of states, and listings without one get fewer applicants regardless.

Quote from the directional range above rather than a specific national figure, since there is no dental-specific BLS wage for this role — see what to budget for the full picture.

Whether prior dental experience is required. Say explicitly if you're open to a no-experience hire — see how candidates break in with no experience for what a strong one actually looks like.

A listing that implies dental experience is required filters out a good customer-service candidate before they apply.

The practice-management software you run. Naming Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Open Dental lets an experienced candidate self-select in immediately — see which one is worth learning for context on how the three differ.

There's no licence to get wrong here — but there is a scope question

Unlike a hygienist or assistant listing, this one has no state-scope line to check.

What still trips practices up is vagueness about experience level and software: a listing silent on both draws applicants who don't fit either way.

If you're open to hiring someone new to dentistry, say so directly — see how a no-experience candidate typically breaks in for what a strong one looks like on paper, and what you'll need to train once they start.

After you post

Verify employment history directly with previous employers; there's no licence board to fall back on for this role.

If your practice-management software matters to the hire, ask for a specific example of something the candidate actually did in it, not just "I've used it."
