Position Overview

Smile Loft Dental is seeking an experienced and dependable Traveling Lead Dental Assistant to support our dental teams across multiple Maryland locations. This role combines hands-on dental assisting responsibilities with leadership, coordination, and support for clinical operations.

The ideal candidate should have strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt to different dental office environments. The position will be based in Laurel, MD, with travel required approximately 3 days per week to assigned offices.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist dentists during a variety of dental treatment procedures and ensure all required instruments and materials are prepared.
• Take dental radiographs (X-rays) in accordance with applicable regulations and office protocols.
• Maintain a valid X-ray certification required for the position.
• Review and document patient medical history and assist with obtaining vital signs, including blood pressure and pulse, when required.
• Prepare, sterilize, and maintain dental instruments and equipment in accordance with infection control standards.
• Support and maintain proper infection control procedures throughout the dental office.
• Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental procedures.
• Provide patients with appropriate post-treatment and oral care instructions as directed by the dentist.
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and basic nutritional guidance.
• Take dental impressions and assist with preparation of study casts when required.
• Assist with patient care across various dental specialties, including general dentistry, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, and oral surgery.
• Help maintain an organized, efficient, and well-prepared clinical environment.
• Provide leadership and day-to-day support to dental assistants at assigned locations.
• Help ensure clinical protocols, sterilization procedures, and office standards are consistently followed.
• Support onboarding, training, and mentoring of dental assistants when needed.
• Communicate effectively with dentists, office managers, dental assistants, patients, and other team members.
• Assist with scheduling, patient communication, inventory, and other administrative duties as needed.
• Travel between assigned Smile Loft Dental locations approximately 3 days per week based on operational needs.

The Traveling Lead Dental Assistant may be required to work at the following Smile Loft Dental locations:

• Middle River, MD
• Suitland, MD
• Bowie, MD
• Landover, MD
• Laurel, MD
• Gaithersburg, MD
• North Potomac, MD
• Catonsville, MD
• Glen Burnie, MD

Please note: Laurel, MD is listed as the primary location; however, this is a traveling position, and the selected candidate should be comfortable traveling to the above locations approximately 3 days per week.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Dental Assistant; lead or senior-level experience preferred.
• Valid X-ray certification is required.
• Strong understanding of dental assisting procedures, infection control, and clinical protocols.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and provide leadership to dental assisting teams.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Comfortable traveling between multiple dental office locations approximately 3 days per week.
• Ability to adapt to different office teams, dentists, workflows, and patient needs.
• Experience with dental practice management software is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $60,000.00 per year
