Surgical Dental Assistant

Duties

• Prepare treatment rooms with sterile instruments and ensure all dental equipment is properly set up for surgical procedures
• Assist dentists during various surgical interventions by handing instruments, managing suction, and maintaining a clear operative field using four-handed dentistry techniques
• Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans when applicable, ensuring accurate imaging for diagnosis and treatment planning
• Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies
• Monitor vital signs and medical documentation to support patient safety before, during, and after procedures
• Process dental instruments following sterilization procedures to prevent infection transmission and maintain aseptic technique standards
• Educate patients on post-operative care instructions, answer questions regarding procedures like oral surgery or endodontics, and ensure they feel comfortable throughout their visit

Experience

• Proven experience working as a Dental Assistant in a clinical setting with exposure to general dentistry, oral surgery, or pediatric dentistry preferred
• Familiarity with dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, dental instrument processing, and infection prevention management
• Knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, and dental equipment operation necessary for supporting complex procedures
• Hands-on experience with dental x-ray machines, 3D scanners, and patient management software such as Dentrix or DSN is highly desirable
• Understanding of healthcare infection control standards and aseptic techniques to uphold safety protocols at all times
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages, including pediatric patients, while demonstrating professionalism and empathy
• Certification in dental assisting or relevant healthcare training is preferred; ongoing education in areas like endodontics or prosthodontics is a plus

Pay: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16.0 per week
