Duties

• Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments, adhering to best practices in infection prevention management.
• Conduct thorough patient assessments by taking vital signs, medical histories, and dental radiographs (X-rays), utilizing dental equipment and medical imaging tools effectively.
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and treatment plans to improve their overall dental health.
• Assist with chairside procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure efficient workflow and patient comfort.
• Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix accurately, documenting all patient interactions, medical records, and treatment notes in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Review documentation for accuracy and completeness; ensure all medical coding aligns with current standards for billing and insurance purposes.
• Maintain strict adherence to healthcare infection prevention and control protocols, including aseptic techniques and sterilization of dental equipment.
• Support the dental team with general dentistry procedures and pediatric dentistry cases, demonstrating expertise in pediatric dentistry when applicable.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA privacy standards by maintaining patient confidentiality at all times during data handling and communication.
• Collaborate effectively with dentists and other staff members to deliver seamless patient care experiences.

Qualifications

• Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice.
• Proven experience working in a dental office or clinic setting with proficiency in dental assisting and chairside assisting techniques.
• Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental equipment operation.
• Familiarity with EHR/EHR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience managing electronic health records efficiently.
• Expertise in infection prevention management, including sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques aligned with healthcare standards.
• Ability to perform dental x-ray procedures safely while ensuring patient comfort; knowledge of medical imaging protocols is preferred.
• Excellent client communication skills; capable of educating patients about dental care practices clearly and empathetically.
• Knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements related to medical records and patient privacy laws.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment using strong documentation review skills and attention to detail in medical coding.
• Prior experience in pediatric dentistry is a plus but not required; a passion for caring for diverse patient populations is essential.
