Orthodontic Assistant

Overview

We are looking for a highly experienced, confident, and dependable Orthodontic Assistant to join our clinical team. This position is ideal for someone with significant orthodontic chairside experience who can step into a busy practice and contribute with minimal training.

The right candidate will have strong clinical skills, excellent patient communication, and hands-on experience with modern orthodontic technology, including Invisalign and iTero scanning. You should be comfortable working independently, anticipating the orthodontist’s needs, maintaining an efficient clinical flow, and providing exceptional patient care.

This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for an experienced orthodontic professional who can hit the ground running.

Position Details

• Pay: From $26.00 per hour, based on experience
• Full-time Chairside Orthodontic Assistant
• Alternating schedule: Monday–Wednesday / Wednesday–Friday
• 11-hour shifts
• 6-day weekend every other week
• Travel between our Puyallup and Graham locations
• In-person position

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking an experienced Orthodontic Assistant who:

• Has 2+ years of orthodontic chairside experience; 3+ years preferred
• Has strong hands-on experience assisting with orthodontic treatment
• Is proficient in Invisalign
• Is experienced with iTero scanning and digital orthodontic technology
• Can confidently assist with braces, wires, appliances, bonding, debonding, and other routine orthodontic procedures
• Understands orthodontic terminology, procedures, and clinical workflows
• Can work efficiently in a busy, high-volume practice
• Requires minimal clinical training and can become productive quickly
• Demonstrates excellent attendance, reliability, and punctuality
• Is comfortable traveling between our Puyallup and Graham offices
• Takes ownership of responsibilities and follows through without constant direction
• Works well as part of a team and communicates professionally with patients and coworkers

ResponsibilitiesChairside Clinical Support

• Assist orthodontists during patient examinations, adjustments, procedures, bonding, debonding, and appliance placement/removal
• Provide efficient four-handed chairside assistance
• Anticipate the orthodontist’s needs and prepare instruments, materials, and treatment areas
• Maintain an organized and efficient clinical flow throughout the day
• Assist with orthodontic procedures for patients of all ages
• Take accurate orthodontic records, photographs, X-rays, and digital scans
• Perform iTero scans and assist with digital treatment planning and appliance workflows
• Provide Invisalign-related clinical support and patient instruction

Patient Care

• Provide a welcoming, professional, and compassionate experience for every patient
• Educate patients and parents on orthodontic care, appliance use, oral hygiene, and treatment instructions
• Clearly explain post-treatment and home-care instructions
• Communicate concerns or changes in patient health history to the appropriate clinical team member
• Help patients feel comfortable and confident throughout their orthodontic treatment

Clinical & Compliance

• Maintain strict infection control and sterilization protocols
• Follow OSHA, HIPAA, and practice safety standards
• Properly maintain and handle clinical and imaging equipment
• Maintain accurate and confidential patient records
• Follow established clinical protocols and office procedures
• Keep treatment rooms clean, stocked, and prepared for the next patient

Team Support

• Work collaboratively with doctors, clinical team members, and patient care staff
• Help maintain an efficient patient schedule and clinical flow
• Communicate effectively with the front office and clinical team
• Assist with additional clinical duties as needed
• Take initiative and help identify ways to improve efficiency and patient experience

QualificationsRequired

• Minimum 2 years of orthodontic chairside experience; 3+ years preferred
• Strong, hands-on orthodontic assisting experience
• Demonstrated proficiency with Invisalign
• Demonstrated proficiency with iTero scanning
• Experience with digital orthodontic records and imaging
• Strong understanding of orthodontic procedures and terminology
• Excellent chairside assisting and four-handed dentistry skills
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment
• Excellent attendance, reliability, and punctuality
• Ability to work independently and take initiative
• Ability to travel between the Puyallup and Graham locations
• Dental assisting education, certification, or applicable training as required
• Radiography certification/training preferred

• Ortho2Edge EMR
• Digital X-rays and orthodontic photography
• Invisalign workflow and records
• iTero scanning
• Bracket placement and removal
• Bonding and debonding
• Wire changes and adjustments
• Appliance delivery and removal
• Retainers and other orthodontic appliances
• Experience working directly with orthodontists in a high-volume practice
