Expanded Functions Dental Assistant

Spring Valley Dental Care is looking for a motivated, dependable, and experienced Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dental team.

We are seeking a team member who is confident working chairside with the doctor, has excellent patient-care skills, and is knowledgeable in dental procedures and office protocols.

Responsibilities

• Assist dentists during a wide range of procedures, including prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
• Perform expanded functions such as coronal polishing, temporary restorations, and other delegated clinical tasks in accordance with state regulations.
• Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments to ensure a safe and efficient workflow.
• Take and record vital signs, medical history updates, and perform patient assessments to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
• Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring accurate documentation of procedures, medical records, and patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Assist with medical coding and billing processes related to dental procedures for smooth insurance claims processing.
• Educate patients on oral health care instructions post-treatment while maintaining clear communication about procedures performed.

Skills

• Proficiency in dental terminology, medical terminology, and understanding of various dental specialties, including prosthodontics, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics.
• Experience working with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation and scheduling purposes.
• Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
• Ability to perform patient assessments, including vital signs measurement and medical history review accurately.
• Skilled in dental assisting techniques with a focus on expanded functions delegated by the dentist.
• Familiarity with general dentistry procedures, along with specialized areas like endodontics or orthodontics is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills suited for working alongside dental receptionists and team members to coordinate patient care effectively.

Qualifications

• Previous dental assisting experience required.
• EFDA certification/expanded-functions experience required or preferred, depending on applicable state requirements.
• Current CPR/BLS certification .
• Knowledge of dental terminology and procedures.
• Experience with digital X-rays and dental practice-management software is a plus.
• Strong understanding of infection control and sterilization procedures.
• Excellent communication and patient-care skills.
• Reliable, organized, punctual, and able to work in a fast-paced dental office.
• Ability to work independently while also being a strong team player.
• Professional appearance and positive attitude.
