Expanded Functions Dental Assistant

Job Overview

We are seeking an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant to support high-quality patient care in a dental clinic. This role combines chairside assisting, expanded clinical duties, patient communication, and accurate documentation. You will work with the dental team across general dentistry and may support pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery. Your impact: Careful preparation, infection prevention, and clear patient guidance help patients feel informed and support safe, efficient treatment.

Responsibilities

• Assist chairside using four-handed dentistry; prepare and maintain dental equipment, instruments, and treatment areas.
• Support permitted expanded functions, take dental X-rays, capture medical imaging, and operate a 3D scanner as needed.
• Record vital signs, update medical records, and complete medical documentation in patient management software or electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• Welcome patients and assist with dental receptionist duties, appointment coordination, and patient management.
• Follow dental instrument processing, sterilization procedures, aseptic technique, and infection control requirements.

Skills

• Required: Dental assisting experience, patient care skills, dental terminology, medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, and familiarity with clinical confidentiality policies and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
• Required: Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control, infection prevention management, and dental sterilization procedures.
• Preferred: Dental clinic experience and familiarity with Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or other EMR and patient management software.
• Preferred: Experience supporting general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, or oral surgery, along with dental X-ray and 3D scanner use.

Pay: $28.00 - $42.50 per hour
