Job Overview

As an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant, you’ll help keep visits organized, comfortable, and clinically efficient. You’ll support patient care across general dentistry and specialty procedures, prepare dental equipment and instruments, and maintain accurate medical records. Your impact: By anticipating clinical needs and supporting clear, careful care, you help patients feel informed and enable the dental team to work smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Provide chairside assisting, including four-handed dentistry, during examinations and procedures such as endodontics, oral surgery, and prosthodontics.
• Support pediatric dentistry and general dentistry visits; record vital signs and assist with patient management.
• Prepare and maintain dental equipment, X-ray and other medical imaging tools, and 3D scanners; follow dental sterilization procedures, aseptic technique, and infection control practices.
• Process dental instruments and complete medical documentation using EMR (electronic medical record) systems and patient management software, including Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
• Assist with dental receptionist tasks as needed, communicate using dental and medical terminology, and protect medical records under HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and clinical confidentiality policies.

Requirements

• Dental assisting experience in a dental clinic; expanded functions qualifications must meet applicable local requirements.
• Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, dental X-ray procedures, and dental instrument processing.
• Experience with patient care, medical records, medical documentation, and EMR systems; familiarity with Eaglesoft or Dentrix is useful.
• Understanding of infection prevention management and healthcare infection prevention and control, including dental sterilization procedures and aseptic technique.
• Pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, and dental receptionist experience are preferred.

Pay: $26.75 - $32.22 per hour

Expected hours: 32.0 – 36.0 per week
