Duties

• Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
• Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring high-quality images for accurate diagnosis.
• Conduct patient assessments by measuring vital signs, reviewing medical histories, and evaluating oral health status.
• Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to maximize efficiency.
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health.
• Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems) accurately, documenting treatment details, medical history, and clinical notes in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Maintain infection prevention protocols by sterilizing dental equipment, practicing aseptic techniques, and adhering to healthcare infection control standards.
• Support medical imaging processes and ensure all dental equipment is functioning correctly for safe patient care.
• Review documentation for accuracy, ensure compliance with medical coding standards, and update medical records diligently.
• Uphold patient confidentiality at all times while fostering a friendly, professional environment that encourages open communication.

Qualifications

• Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to perform dental hygiene procedures.
• Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry settings; experience with pediatric patients is a plus.
• Proficiency with dental practice management software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology related to oral health.
• Skilled in chairside assisting, including patient care, patient assessment, and supporting the dentist during procedures.
• Familiarity with infection prevention management, sterilization techniques, and healthcare infection control standards.
• Excellent client communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively on dental care practices.
• Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) management systems and documentation review processes.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and professionalism.
