Dental Hygienist for a Perio Office

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Dental Hygienist to join our specialized periodontal practice for 1 day/week, specifically Wednesdays, 9-5. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dental hygiene, with particular expertise in periodontal health, patient education, and comprehensive dental care. As a Dental Hygienist in our practice, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care, supporting periodontal treatments, and maintaining the highest standards of infection control and confidentiality. Your proactive approach and attention to detail will contribute significantly to our team’s success and patient satisfaction.

Duties

• Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and root planing procedures specific to periodontal therapy.
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, medical history review, and oral health examinations.
• Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring accurate positioning and image quality for diagnosis.
• Educate patients on periodontal health, oral hygiene practices, and overall dental care to promote long-term oral wellness.
• Assist with chairside procedures, providing support during treatments such as dental implant maintenance or surgical procedures.
• Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix to document patient information accurately and efficiently.
• Follow strict infection prevention protocols, including aseptic techniques and sterilization of dental equipment.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality and handling medical records responsibly.
• Collaborate with the dental team to ensure seamless workflow within the periodontal office environment.
• Stay informed about advancements in dental technology, medical imaging, and periodontal treatment methods.

Requirements

• Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current CPR certification.
• Proven experience working in a periodontal or general dentistry setting, with familiarity in pediatric dentistry preferred.
• Proficiency in using EHR/EHR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation review and management.
• Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control standards.
• Expertise in chairside assisting techniques, including handling dental equipment and performing dental x-ray procedures.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively educate patients and collaborate with team members.
• Ability to perform detailed patient assessments while maintaining a compassionate approach to patient care.
• Familiarity with HIPAA compliance management and healthcare infection prevention practices.
• Knowledge of medical coding related to dental procedures is advantageous but not mandatory.
