We are seeking an experienced Claims/Billing Specialist to join our growing private group dental practice. We are looking for someone who understands the dental insurance and billing world, takes pride in accuracy and follow-through, and enjoys being part of a great, collaborative, and supportive team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced dental RCM professional who wants to make a meaningful impact while working in a positive environment. Remote hours may be available for the right candidate.

Position Summary

The Revenue Cycle Management Specialist is responsible for managing insurance claims and accounts receivable to ensure accurate and timely payment. This position will apply insurance payments, research and reconcile unpaid or underpaid claims, follow up with insurance carriers and patients as needed, and identify and resolve issues that may delay payment.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable navigating dental insurance systems and payer portals. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently while communicating and collaborating closely with the team are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Claims Management & Reconciliation

  • Submit, monitor, and follow up on dental insurance claims.
  • Research and reconcile unpaid, denied, delayed, and underpaid claims, including aged claims.
  • Identify the root cause of outstanding claims and take appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Correct and resubmit claims when necessary.
  • Utilize insurance company portals to research claim status, eligibility, payment information, and other account details.
  • Download and process electronic remittance.
  • Print and mail paper claims as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reconciliation notes to ensure timely follow-up.
  • Communicate with insurance companies by phone and email to resolve claim issues.
  • Escalate unusual or complex issues appropriately.

Insurance & Patient Accounts Receivable

  • Apply third-party insurance payments to accounts receivable accurately and promptly.
  • Monitor assigned accounts for outstanding insurance and patient balances.
  • Follow up on unpaid insurance claims and outstanding patient accounts as appropriate.
  • Ensure account balances and payment information are accurately documented.
  • Identify trends or recurring issues affecting collections and communicate concerns to team leader.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to inquiries from insurance companies and patients.

Team Collaboration

  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with doctors, practice leadership, front-office team members, and clinical team.
  • Communicate when changes or corrections to any processes are needed.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a supportive team and contribute to a positive workplace culture

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years of dental Revenue Cycle Management experience.
  • Strong experience with dental insurance claims management.
  • Experience managing insurance and patient accounts receivable.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent follow-through.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Dental Practice Management Software.
  • Ability to learn and navigate multiple insurance payer portals and dental practice systems.

Preferred:

  • Experience handling claim denials, appeals, aging AR, and insurance follow-up.
  • Experience working in a multi-provider or group dental practice.
