Subsection (2), "Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists," lists roughly two dozen shared duties: charting; topical agents (anesthetics, fluoride, bonding and etchant materials); rubber dam and periodontal or socket dressings; temporary restorations and crowns; impressions, case history, and vitals; suture and cement removal; radiographs; hygiene instructions; cavity liners; N2O/O2 assistance; fitting and adjusting prostheses under the dentist's final review; preliminary imaging; and coronal polishing and sealants under direct supervision, with the dentist making the final evaluation.
Allied dental personnel are dental hygienists, dental assistants and dental laboratory technicians. Two Chapter 270-X-4 rules use the word "assistant" but regulate institutions, not individuals.
Rule 270-X-4-.02 requires a clinical dental facility that uses unlicensed individuals to obtain the Board's "APPROVED STATUS."
